ColorPlus & Sidewalk Stories: A Film Ramble Through New York

I shot these photos on my last trip to NYC using my faithful Canon AE-1 paired with an FD 1.4 and a roll of Kodak ColorPlus 200. There’s something about that ColorPlus warmth and subtle grain that turns every busy street and looming skyscraper into a timeless memory, like the city decided to throw on a vintage filter just for me.

From the sun-lit towers and the Brooklyn Bridge’s iconic silhouette to the old-school neon buzz at Katz’s, each shot feels like I’ve caught a private moment in a place that’s anything but private.

Shooting film slows me down in the best way. Instead of firing off bursts of digital shots, I actually try to pause, breathe in the scene, and wait for the right moment. No instant previews, no filters beyond what the film itself brings. Just pure, honest slices of New York life.

With these frames, NYC feels both familiar and brand new. That’s the magic of ColorPlus, the AE-1, and the city itself: a combo that draws you right in, turning ordinary corners and busy avenues into a warm, nostalgic daydream.
