The nape holds a unique sensuality for me. It’s a part of our bodies rarely revealed in daily interactions. Even with those we spend the most time with, we typically face each other. We may turn our backs to convey a message, conceal our faces, or compel others to confront a part that demands choices. While the nape may be visible in public spaces, it remains untouchable. The nape gains its sensuality in moments of shared intimacy, allowing one to touch something that wields the power of potential rejection, or when one bends to kiss under the nape by the shoulder, as the other looks the other way. It’s in these moments that the nape loses its inherent power, transforming into a tactile safety harness one can hold onto without distance between two bodies.
