This 4th trip to Japan was also my 2nd stay in Monzen-Nakacho. I loved this neighborhood last January, so I returned there in June.
I like its relaxed atmosphere, its popular ambiance, its colors... Not the Tokyo of glass towers and hurried salarymen, nor that of large shopping centers packed with tourists. Here, we take our time. During the day, we pass parents on bikes dropping their children off at kindergarten, teachers with their classes going to the park or the baseball field, women doing their shopping, grandmothers going to pray at the temple. In the evening, the streets come alive and we choose in which izakaya we will refresh ourselves with a large glass of beer with grilled fish or sashimi, and start a lively conversation with our neighbor at the table, in broken Japanese mixed with English. And we take lots of photos!

This is Ginza Lion Beer Hall, an incredible Munich style brasserie with Art Déco architecture and german atmosphere (they even play traditional bavarian and tyrolian music !! 😆). The interior, with mosaics and brick walls, is 90 years old and survived the WW2 bombings. It's an historical landmarck, but above all, a fun place to have a drink with bretzel and sausages (but also with japanese snacks, if you prefer) ! 😎
Hello, I'm back from Tokyo, and here are my first photos. Shot around my hotel in Monzen-Nakacho, a really charming neighborhood. There is even a lab near the metro station, where I developed most of my color films! LOTS more photos to come!
After the disappointing visit to teamLabs, returning to the nearby Tokyo Tower was something magical. Night had fallen, the sky was overcast, almost no one in the streets... And there she was, lit up, proud, elegant, begging to be photographed from all angles... the best light effect of the day, and without fuss.
