Dolphin cutting through water

On the day before we left the Canaries, we decided to spend a couple of hours dolphin & whale watching. Although we didn't see any whales, we did find & follow a pod of 8-12 dolphins which were not shy in coming up to the surface & playing in the waves created by our boat. I'm not one to get on my soap box & lecture people about cruelty to animals, the ethics of keeping wild animals in captivity or forcing intelligent creature to perform for crowds of cheering onlookers... but when you see Dolphins enjoying the freedom to go about their business in the wilds of the Atlantic, it makes you wonder why anyone would want to [in effect] keep them as performing pets. There is something about seeing them in the wild that makes this really hit home.
