Like a Splitzer on a Wire

How to avoid losing your La Sardina DIY splitzer and lens cap? Put them on a wire!

A tipster I’ve found pretty useful in the last month was this one, in which it was shown how to create a DIY splitzer for La Sardina with the lid of a 35mm film canister. I’ve just tried to develop this idea in order to have the splitzer always at hand and to avoid losing it.

Here’s what you need:

• A DIY La Sardina splitzer, made out of a 35 mm canister lid and a piece of black paper glued on top
• Scissor or cutters
• Cardboard
• Glue or adhesive tape
• A string

Once you got your DIY Splitzer made, just cut out a piece of cardbord paper as that in the picture, which can fit the splitzer front side and also has a rectangular extension leaning outside of the splitzer area. Glue the cardboard silhouette on the splitzer front.

Then make a hole in the cardboard rectangular extension and pass a string through it, even better if you could help yourself with a small ring or hook. Finally fix it around the La Sardina rewind button and you’ll always be ready to go out and splitz with it!

I have also tried to follow a similar approach to avoid losing the La Sardina lens cap, after it slipped out of my hand at a punk gig and I risked my life to sort it out of the mosh pit. Just pierce the lens cap in the middle with a needle and tie a string with a knot, as shown in the picture. This new string can join the splitzer string.

As a matter of fact you will not lose the lens cap and the splitzer although it’s better if they’re out of the frame!
