On sunny days, many locals (Cariocas) and tourists in Rio find their own spot in the vast stretch of Copacabana beach to enjoy the waves and the sun. Creating striking contrast against the white sand and the blue skies are the colorful umbrellas, beach chairs, swimsuits and trunks, flags, sunglasses and definitely skincolors that attest to the interesting cultural diversity of beach goers.

We're supposed to visit the Cristo Redentor (Christ the Redeemer) monument that day but the rain that came the night before would make it difficult for us to enjoy the trip. Instead, our service vehicle transported us across the longest bridge in South America to the City of Niteroi (the old state capital before Rio became a cidade/city). Our first stop was the Museum of Contemporary Art (MAC) - a futuristic spaceship-looking architecture designed by Oscar Niemeyer. One will definitely be awed by this humongous UFO-looking structure that is nestled on the cliffside. Truly a great architectural marvel and one of Brazil's pride!
Ohne Wasser würde mir das Meer fehlen. Ich liebe das Meer! Schade, dass ich so weit davon weg wohne, aber sobald sich mir eine Gelegenheit bietet, fahre ich hin. Nicht unbedingt zum schwimmen, sondern einfach, um da zu sein, mich zu freuen, und bestenfalls tolles Wetter für ein paar Fotos zu haben. Ich wünsche mir mal im Winter am Meer zu sein, damit ich eine eingeschneite Küste sehen kann!
