Headless Buddha, Ta Prohm

This shot of a headless Buddha statue was taken in Ta Prohm during my third day in Siem Reap. I had been puzzled by these headless Buddha which can bee seen in many wats. Upon further investigation, local people told me that when the ruins were discovered, many of the statue's heads were stolen as collector's items and put on display in Western museums. Some of the statues were also damaged and destroyed by the Khmer Rouge during the 70's.
