For lomographer Ana Batrićević, shooting on film is a welcome break from her mostly digital work. With her grandfather's camera, she documents the world around her in nostalgic hues, a process that serves as a reminder of her childhood. Get to know our newcomer of the week in this interview.

Ana Batrićević aka @batanna

Name: Ana Batrićević
LomoHome: @batanna
Location: Belgrade, Serbia

Please tell us something about yourself and what you do.

Although I actually have a PhD degree in criminal law, several years ago I discovered I was interested in something more creative and started learning about web and graphic design. It turned out to be a good decision since I currently do a lot of web and graphic design, which I find really fulfilling. Photography is my favorite hobby and analogue photography is my great passion.

How did you find the Community and who/what convinced you to join?

I found it suddenly while browsing websites about analogue photography and wondering if there are more people who are as passionate about it as I am. I instantly fell in love with the idea of this Community as I discovered (and still keep discovering) so many inspiring LomoHomes and awesome articles.

As you have read the 10 Golden Rules of Lomography, what rule do you apply in your everyday life?

Definitely Rule 3: Lomography is a part of my everyday life. I carry my analogue camera everywhere I go and even if it happens that I leave it at home, I keep thinking about the photos I could make, scenes, colors and expressions I could capture.

In this digital age, why still film?

While doing web and graphic design I spend a lot of time in the digital world. I see film as an escape from it, as a chance to return to reality and experience real colours, shapes, textures, but also real emotion. Analogue photos remind me of childhood and give me that nostalgic feeling of safety and warmth. I also like the surprise factor. It is exciting that you are never completely sure how your photos are going to look like in the end.

Your favorite analog camera as of the moment? Why?

My favorite analogue camera is Foca Sport I. It was made in France the 1950s, but it still functions perfectly. It belonged to my late grandfather, so working with it also has an emotional side for me. I love it because it is completely vintage. It has no batteries, no flash and you have to set up everything manually, which is a great challenge and really makes you appreciate every exposure.

What is the Lomography camera you’d want to have someday?

I actually have it, but I am not able to use it because I cannot find film for it in Belgrade. It is the old Smena 8M, made by LOMO in Leningrad, former USSR in the '70s. It also has no flash and everything is set up manually, which again is a great challenge. I would love to have a Lomo'Instant Sanremo, because of its beautiful vintage design.

Any song, book, or movie you live by?

I am a huge fan of Stephen King, so I always find inspiration in his books and novels. When it comes to songs, "Aquarius" from Hair! would perfectly describe my dreams, hopes and ideals.

Share your current favorite lomographer, could be yours or a friend’s. Why?

My current favorite lomographer is @emkei. His photos are so beautiful, vivid, and full of positive vibes. I love the way he plays with colors and light.

Any Community member you look up to? If so, why him or her?

Every time I visit the Lomography website and interact with the members of the Community I feel that I have learned something new. I could not say that there is only one member I look up to. I'd rather say that I am trying to learn something from every member, whether it is some technical information or a creative idea. It broadens my views and perspectives and is a great source of creativity.

What are you looking forward to in our Community?

I am so excited to be a part of this Community. I am looking forward to seeing beautiful new photos of my friends every day as well as to discovering other inspiring lomo homes and reading new articles. Being able to share your opinion and express your appreciation of somebody's work is also great. I am always happy to receive a feedback from some of the Community members. That is such an encouragement for me to continue doing what I love.
