Name: Pavel Petrischev

Location: Minsk, Belarus
Please tell us something about yourself and what you do.
My name is Pavel Petrischev. I am 40 years old and I am from from Belarus, Minsk.
I've been doing photography for 30 years and have been shooting professionally for the last 15 years. [Editor's note: Visit Pavel's website to see his portfolio.]
I graduated in college with a major in photography and production. A year ago, I entered a university to study journalism and print media. I am currently working as a photography teacher at the National School of Beauty.
I have two daughters, Sonja and Marta, and they are my main inspirations in life:
How did you find the Community and who/what convinced you to join?
It just happened and fate helped me. My wife's brother had found an old camera Smena-1 at the dump in the village.
Someone just threw it. Inside it, I found a film roll and had it developed. The people in the images are not familiar to me so I tried to research more. I found out that in 1970, a basketball team came to Odessa.
Also, I found out about people who shoot with the camera's removable back. I tried it myself and I liked the result. I generally like old Soviet lens, they have a special power. So I began to check your website.
As you read the 10 Golden Rules of Lomography, what rules do you apply in everyday life?
In the BBC documentary about Lomography, I liked the phrase "Don't Think, Just Shoot." In my opinion, it is a brilliant explanation of what Lomography is.
In this digital age, why still film?
I believe that film is like a living matter. It's like having a baby. You do not know how he will grow and there is always a risk that nothing will happen. For me, the older the film is, the better. I think it excites me!
Your favorite analog camera as of the moment? Why is this your favorite?
As I wrote above, I just fell in love with the Smena, even with the Smena-2 and Smena 8M. But my favorite is Olympus XA. It's a great invention by he Japanese engineer, Yoshihisa Maitani.
I also have a collection of Zorki cameras. For medium format, the Pentacon Six with a set of Carl Zeiss lenses.
What Lomography cameras that you want to have someday?
LC-A 120. In my opinion, it is a very cool thing. I hope one day I will have it!
Any song or movie you live by?
I really like the French director Bertrand Blier and his film "Going Places" greatly influenced me.
I like the songs by Dodre & Jamez and "Jazz Master" by Kruder & Dorfmeister
Share yourcurrent favorite Lomograph. It could be yours or a friend's. Why is this your favorite?
I think these are powerful pictures!
Any member of the community you'd like to be? If so, why him or her?
I can not give exact names of the lomographers but I think the Japanese are very talented, especially with shooting multiple exposures. I think the lesson is not to hurry.
What are you looking forward to our community?
Thank you for organizing this community. It really blurs the boundaries. I hope to find a lot of friends from all over the world. Viva Lomography!
Thank you Pavel for granting us this interview. Welcome the community and looking forward to seeing more of your photographs!
