What a better way to spend New Year's day than taking a historic hike along the great walls of Namhansanseong Fortress in southern Seoul. Following the fortress wall that snake eight km along the peaks of Namhan Mountain, we spent the day hiking through massive gates and around Buddhist temples, and to top it off, some spectacular views of New Year's Day in Seoul.

Gracias a Lomography y a la Organización de Turismo de Seúl, pasé 6 días en la capital coreana con mi amiga Kelmort. Este palacio es el más grande de los que actualmente se pueden visitar. Fue el primer sitio turístico que visitamos y estuvimos casi cuatro horas recorriendo todo el complejo.

“너 그 개그는 대체.. 지금이 쌍팔년도냐.” 우리는 종종 이런 표현을 쓴다. 오래된, 구식의, 재미없는, 억지의, 때로는 독재를 뜻하는 말. 하지만 이 ‘88’하면 가장 먼저 떠오르는 것은 바로 올림픽이다. 굴렁쇠 소년과 날아오르는 비둘기의 이미지로 우리의 가슴속에 아련하게 남아있는, 이미 20년도 지난 그 해의 여름. 열기 가득했던 그 모습에서 이제는 편안한 도심 속의 휴양지의 역할을 묵묵히 수행하고 있는 서울 송파구의 올림픽공원을 찾았다.

앤틱(antique)에 대해 모 백과사전은 다음과 같이 풀이했다.
“시대에 뒤떨어진 이란 뜻으로 쓰이기도 하는데 보통은 옛날의, 고대의, 고풍이라는 뜻의 형용사로 쓰인다. 또는 고대 미술, 고물, 골동품이란 뜻의 명사. (중략) 일반적으로는 고물취미의 의미로써 옛날 좋았던 시대, 즉 기계적 양산에 상대되는 손작업 시대 유물에의 동경으로 각광받았다.”
오래된 느낌이 나면서 그 나름의 멋을 가지고 있는 것. 하지만 유물의 단계까지는 넘어가지 않는. 아날로그를 좋아하고, 스팀펑크 따위에 열광하는 취향을 가진 사람은 이런 해묵고 스타일리쉬한 것들에 대한 애착을 가지고 있다. 서울에도 오래된 고궁과 멋없는 현대건물 사이의 수 백년 간극을 메우며 앤틱한 멋을 간직한 곳이 있으니, 지금 소개하는 창경궁 대온실이다.

In the northern reaches of Seoul, Bukhansan National Park - 북한산국립공원- spreads its rocky wings over 78.45 km and 6 districts of Seoul. I spent a day hiking to the highest peak Baegundae -백운대, which at 837m gives you the most spectacular view of Seoul below.

Want to be hardcore? Want to test your endurance? Then why not climb a 1,157.2 m (3,797 ft) mountain in the middle of the snowy winter cold. And why not get lost in the mountain while you are at it, hiking through the fresh snow only to end up at a Buddhist temple where monks proceed to give you chocolate and drive you off the mountain. Yup, my hike on Yongmunsan Mountain (용문산) just 45km out of Seoul, definitely gave us an exciting day trip away from the hustle and bustle of the city.
